Everyone recalls the horrors of the 8th October 2006 Pakistan Earthquake. Millions of people were affected and continue to be so. Many families from the United Kingdom had a particular interest through their family and historical migration connections.
Third World Solidarity is working with other organisations and groups to develop particular Education projects.
Third World Solidarity has identified, as a starting project, a school in village "Bagrool" Disst. "Bagh" in Kashmir, which was at the epicenter of the Quake. The school will be called Kensington & Chelsea School. The school had over 700 pupils studying in October last year and a large number died as a result of the earthquake disaster. As well as the considerable and devastating human loss, those left behind still today have no facilities since the buildings, as well as all the equipment, were destroyed. As a result children have had to make do with makeshift temporary structures, with no shelter from the elements and little or no equipment. The aim is that the school will be completed by the end of 2007 and handed back to the local Government. The school will cater for pupils from the age of 5 to 18 years old for both boys and girls. The estimated cost of the school is approximately £70,000.
